Carroll County Government will recognize a World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEADD), which is on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, with a series of events held throughout June. The Carroll County Bureau of Aging & Disabilities (BOAD) together with the Carroll County Office of the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, will partner with Carroll County Adult Protective Services and Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office to offer a special program to examine financial exploitation of older adults and learn ways to protect individuals from scams and fraud. The program will be offered at each of the five Carroll County Senior & Community Centers.

During the program, attendees will view the 2012 documentary “Last Will & Embezzlement,” which examines the financial exploitation of the elderly, including Mickey Rooney’s own experience. Our local ombudsman, Adult Protective Services staff and the chief investigator for the State’s Attorney’s Office will provide tips and tools on how to protect against financial exploitation, scams, and fraud. A shredding event in partnership with the Senior Medicare Patrol will also be available. Reservations are required to participate in the catered lunch.
