East Middle School

Staff of the Bureau of Resource Management (BRM) organized the “in Celebration of Earth Day” event in partnership with faculty from East Middle School. The 7th grade class of East Middle School (230 students) was divided into three groups for three separate days of hands-on learning and exploration on campus in celebration of Earth Day. Students learned about macroinvertebrates and how they help determine stream health in the neighboring Longwell Run, took a walking tour of on-site stormwater management practices, planted and mulched trees for a stream buffer, and planted herbaceous materials in a stormwater basin.
