Westminster, MD, Tuesday, September 21, 2021 The Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste, Recycling Operation is pleased to announce the addition of a drop-off center for Discover Books. Discover Books is a for-profit company that believes in letting the stories live on through reselling, redistributing, and recycling books. The company believes in giving back to the community through book donations to literacy programs. Discover Books keeps books out of the landfills and in the hands of readers. Effective immediately, Discover Books will provide blue book bins at the Carroll County Northern Landfill, Recycling Drop Off location. The partnership will keep millions of books from being thrown into the garbage.

The following items are accepted:  softback and hardback books, college textbooks, CD’s, DVD’s, and video games (in a separate box/container).

The following items are not accepted:  newspapers, magazines, National Geographic, phone books/directories, Bibles, coloring books, wet/moldy/smelly/damaged books, foreign language books, spiral-bound 3-ring binder books, and no books on tape (audiobooks).

Books that don’t qualify for reselling or donations are recycled into new products. For more information on Discover Books, visit https://www.discoverbooks.com.
