Westminster, MD, Thursday, July 11, 2019 - Today, during Open Session, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners (BOC) received a presentation from the Carroll County Department of Public Works (DPW) updating the board on the development of the Carroll County Transportation Development Plan (TDP).

Staff from DPW and the TDP vendor KFH Group presented an overview covering the introduction of the TDP process, background on the planning process and study goals and summarized other planning documents relevant to planning public transportation services in Carroll County. The presentation highlighted survey input from stakeholders, customers, the public and employers regarding current and future transit services.

Today’s presentation included preliminary alternatives currently under discussion by the Carroll County Transit Advisory Council (TAC). Next steps include refining the alternatives based on input from TAC, the BOC, and other stakeholders; selecting final options for the plan; preparing a draft TDP for review and comment; and ultimately preparing the final TDP for TAC and commissioner approval.  Approval is anticipated by the end of this year.

The TDP is the result of a planning process undertaken on a periodic basis by the transit system. The process builds upon Carroll County’s goals and objectives for transit provides a review and assessment of current transit services, identifies unmet transit needs, and develops an appropriate course of action to address the objectives. The completed TDP for Carroll County will serve as a guide for implementing service and/or organizational changes, improvements, and/or potential expansion during the next five-year period. The most recent TDP for Carroll County was completed in 2012.

Open session is available for viewing on the county meeting portal and the county YouTube channel. In addition, all meetings will be replayed on Comcast Channel 24.
