Westminster, MD, Tuesday, June 24, 2025 – Carroll County Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DFEMS) Assistant Chief, Eric Zaney, has been appointed by Governor Moore to the Statewide EMS Advisory Board (SEMSAC) for a term of four years.

As an appointee of SEMSAC, Zaney will advise Governor Moore and state representatives on EMS matters and develop policy as part of COMAR Title 30 (EMS regulations). In his appointment letter, Governor Moore stated, “with the utmost gratitude for your dedication to public service, it is my pleasure to appoint you as a Maryland Metro Fire Chief’s Representative to SEMSAC.”

According to its website, “SEMSAC is A 31-member Statewide Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (SEMSAC) that advises and assists the EMS Board.  SEMSAC is the principal advisory body to the Board and its membership is defined by statute.  Members are appointed by the EMS Board with the approval of the Governor.”

Chief Zaney, an Army Combat Medic Veteran, is in his 35th year as a licensed Paramedic with a total of 40 years in Public Safety.  He has worked for DFEMS since October of 2023, and was promoted to Assistant Chief, EMS in July of 2024 after serving in the acting role for about 6 months.  He lives in Gettysburg, PA, with his wife, Kari, and their 5 children.

Zaney shared, “I am driven by a deep passion to help others and make a difference in Carroll County. We are building a premier progressive Fire & EMS agency within the state of Maryland and nationally. I am honored to receive this nomination not only for myself but to represent Carroll County at the state level.”
