Carroll County Farm Museum Celebrates Oxen Jack & Jim’s 10th Anniversary

Westminster, MD, Wednesday, October 8, 2025 – The Carroll County Farm Museum is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of resident oxen Jack and Jim. The county will officially recognize the occasion with Commissioner Joe Vigliotti reading a proclamation on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 1:30 pm. The celebration will take place with Jack and Jim at their home near the Hoff Barn at the Farm Museum.
Jack and Jim are a pair of Red Devon oxen, a breed of cattle originating in England, which were an early import to the American colonies and used as power to accomplish farm work as early as the 1790’s. The pair were donated to the Carroll County Farm Museum by the museum’s Hoff Barn Committee. They were born in Falmouth, Maine in April 2011 and brought to the museum in 2015.
The event also coincides with the Traditional Arts Festival, a free event for the community celebrating the fall harvest. Everyone is invited to enjoy free entry into the museum facilities to commemorate Jack and Jim and enjoy the family festival.
We celebrate Jack and Jim on their 10th year as “Ambassadors” of the Farm Museum and enjoy sharing them with our visitors and community. Stop by to say hello and enjoy the festival at the same time!
