Carroll County Unveils Flood Preparedness Campaign Ready Carroll: Flood Smart
Westminster, MD, Monday, February 23, 2026 - The Carroll County Department of Emergency Management and Communications (CCDEMC) is observing the month of March as Carroll County Flood Awareness Month to highlight the importance of community awareness, readiness, and action to reduce the risks associated with flooding.
Flooding remains one of the most common and costly natural hazards affecting the Carroll County community. Locally, heavy rainfall can lead to flash flooding, which can pose serious threats to lives, property, and infrastructure. The purpose of this campaign is to encourage residents, businesses, and visitors to take proactive steps in understanding the local flood risk and prepare before flooding occurs.
Throughout the month of March, CCDEMC will share preparedness tips, educational materials, and safety messaging focused on flood risks, emergency alerts, and protective measures such as flood insurance. Residents are urged to review their own emergency plans, sign up for local emergency notifications, and familiarize themselves with flood-prone areas in their community.
Residents are also encouraged to share their input by taking a few minutes to complete a Flood Preparedness Survey that will help strengthen community readiness, improve emergency response efforts, and better protect lives and property before the next flood strikes.
