October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Westminster, MD, Thursday, October 2, 2025 – This morning, during Open Session, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners proclaimed October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Established in 2004, Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM), held each October, is the world’s foremost initiative aimed at promoting cybersecurity awareness and best practices.
This year’s theme, Building a Cyber Strong America, is especially relevant for Carroll County Government, as it underscores the essential role of government entities and small and medium-sized businesses in protecting the systems and services that sustain our communities and make America and Carroll County a great place to live and do business. CSAM is a collaborative effort among businesses, government agencies, colleges and universities, associations, nonprofit organizations, tribal communities, and individuals committed to educating others about online safety.
From mobile to connected home devices, technology is deeply intertwined with our lives. While the evolution of technology accelerates, cybercriminals are working hard to find ways to compromise technology and disrupt personal and business life. For over 20 years, CSAM has aimed to spotlight the importance of taking daily action to reduce risks when online and using connected devices.
This year CSAM is dedicated to highlighting the need to strengthen the country’s infrastructure against cyber threats, ensuring resilience and security. Carroll County Government is proud to support this widespread online safety awareness and education initiative, which is led by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
