Westminster, MD Thursday, March 12, 2026 - The Carroll County Department of Emergency Management and Communications (CCDEMC) is proud to announce the Ready Carroll: Flood Smart preparedness presentation on Wednesday, March 25th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Company, 702 N. Main Street, Mount Airy.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Causes of flooding and the actions residents can take to protect themselves and their property
  • How Carroll County distributes emergency alerts and notifications ahead of potential flooding events
  • How residents can financially prepare for flood-related impacts.

A guest speaker from the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Sterling, Virginia, will also be present to discuss flood forecasting and the challenges of predicting exactly which areas may be affected.

This event is part of Ready Carroll: Flood Smart, a countywide initiative taking place throughout the month of March. During the campaign, CCDEMC will share preparedness tips, educational materials, and safety messaging focused on flood risks, emergency alerts, and protective measures such as flood insurance.
