Sustainable Communities Resources and Benefits

The Sustainable Community designation is a threshold requirement for application to certain state programs such as Community Legacy and the Strategic Demolition Fund.

Other State Programs not directly related to Sustainable Communities
To better support comprehensive strategies for development and revitalization, various state agencies have contributed to the creation of a Revitalization Toolbox. The toolbox is a reflection of how various agencies are prioritizing investment in Maryland’s Sustainable Communities, programs include:

  • Housing and Community Development, Maryland Mortgage Program - The Maryland Mortgage Program helps homebuyers in Maryland achieve their dream of homeownership through a range of programs that make purchasing and owning a home more affordable.  ​​​​​
  • Housing and Community Development, Home Repair and Improvements - These programs designed to help eligible Maryland homeowners with home repairs that improve comfort, livability, and accessibility.
  • Housing and Community Development, Energy Efficiency - Energy Efficiency offers programs that provide homeowners of all income levels with the resources to improve their home’s energy efficiency. Making sure your property is energy efficient will provide savings on​ your monthly utility bills.

Economic Development, Gateway Renovation Tax Credit Program - in an effort to promote redevelopment and revitalization of the Finksburg, Maryland 140 commercial corridor, this program encourages eligible property owners to visually enhance the overall appearance of their properties.
