2023 Volunteer of the Year Award

Paul Lewis

We nominate Paul Lewis as the WARC Volunteer of the year. Paul is a never ending source of volunteer hours, no matter the season, no matter the sport. He volunteers for multiple organizations within WARC. Paul exemplifies what it means to volunteer.

Paul coaches a boys travel soccer team for WSA, and previously coached multiple coed rec teams as well. He has coached boys and girls WAX lacrosse teams for many years. Paul also coaches basketball and club lacrosse outside of WARC and is the goalie coach for Winters Mill High School boys lacrosse.

Besides coaching, Paul puts in many additional hours. You may find him mowing fields, lining fields, organizing equipment, sending emails, creating spreadsheets, and planning events for his teams. He planned and ran a successful lacrosse clinic in 2022, which allowed new and existing players to grow a love for the game. He plans and runs many goalie clinics throughout the year. He is the boy’s coordinator for WAX, as well as a board member for both WAX & WSA. He is currently serving as the Vice President of WSA.

Paul wears many hats, all for the benefit of youth sports. He serves children across the county with a smile on his face, and a humble spirit that is unmatched. Spend five minutes with him and you will know that he cares deeply about youth sports programs, including his own children and ALL of ours! He thrives on being busy as sitting still is not his strongest quality! When asked when he rests, Paul is known to say, “I’ll sleep when I die!”

Winston Churchill wrote, “we make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” Paul has certainly made a life of giving and volunteering. Every season, every day, Paul volunteers his time to our programs. His commitment to youth sports is unwavering.
