Westminster, MD, Thursday, January 7, 2021 – Today, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners authorized the Department of Economic Development to distribute $254,810, received from the Maryland Department of Commerce, to Carroll County hotels/motels that generate sales and use tax.

Director of Economic Development Jack Lyburn said, “Carroll’s hotels and motels have sustained significant revenue losses due to reduced travel during the pandemic; they are critical tourism partners and an important part of our local economy.

Over the next few weeks, the Carroll County Tourism Office will work with local hotels/motels, that are in good standing with the state and county, to prepare and execute a grant agreement for the funding per the state’s guidelines. All grant documents must be kept for a period of five years.
