Westminster, MD, Tuesday, May 18, 2021 – Carroll County Government, in partnership with Human Services Programs of Carroll County, recently received over $4M to implement the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. On May 10, 2021, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) notified Carroll County Government that the Emergency Rental Assistance Program application submitted by the Board of Commissioners of Carroll County was approved for a $4,260,520 award.  The funding, recently authorized by the U.S. Treasury, is targeted to ensure housing stability for families and individuals at risk of and currently experiencing homelessness in our county. The commissioners previously authorized the use of the funding for eviction prevention for individuals in Carroll County.

This award will provide rental assistance funding to individuals renting in Carroll County who lost income or experienced a financial hardship due to or indirectly related to COVID-19. Support for up to 12 months of rental arrears and up to 3 months of forward rent may be available to those households meeting eligibility guidelines.  Landlords are an integral part of the application process.

Household income must be at or below 80% of the area median income.

Human Services Programs of Carroll County, administrator of the program, began accepting applications on May 17, 2021 and will continue until funding is depleted.
