Westminster, MD, Wednesday, October 26, 2022 – Last week, the Carroll County Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) gave an update report to the Board of County Commissioners presenting two recently completed documents with information on reducing litter and salt management. The EAC is dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship by providing environmentally, socially, and economically responsible recommendations and/or information to the Board of County Commissioners on environmental issues relevant to Carroll County and also by public outreach and education.

The first item discussed sources and types of litter in Carroll County, as well as options for the Board to consider for reducing litter.  The “LitterLess” report was accompanied by a public outreach piece providing information about the significance of litter to Carroll County and offering resources for more information and volunteer opportunities.

The report, titled LitterLess – Reducing Litter in Carroll County, and the public outreach piece, titled LitterLess – Litter Resource Guide for Carroll County Residents, are available to view or download on the Environmental Advisory Council’s website at www.carrollcountymd.gov/government/boards-commissions/environmental-advisory-council/other-eac-publications-topics/

The EAC also presented another recently completed document from its 2022 Work Plan.  The Guide to Salt Management for Homeowners – Deicing and Water Softeners offers tips to help homeowners reduce the amount of salt used on their properties for the purpose of deicing.  The guide provides alternatives and describes the impacts of road salts and water softeners to Carroll County ground and surface waters.  This publication also is available to view or download under that title on the EAC webpage.
